„Descendants“ is a short done by some friends of mine. I just helped them by animating some of the ‘deer like animal’ scenes. A few days ago it has been released on CG Society. – Synopsis: The two main characters are flowers (voiced by Whoopi Goldberg and Christy Scott Cashman) who grow on the edge of a clearing next to one another. One is old and jaded by a mysterious history – the other one still young, vivid and curious. Destiny has brought these two together and it seems as if they would exist without possibility for change, until one day a visitor to the clearing brings something unexpected to their lives.

I just came back from a two and a half month trip. First two month in South America and ending in Austria snowboarding. During my journey the latest project I worked on got released as lead animator… THE GRUFFALO … and I have to say that I’m proud being part of the Gruffalo team. Alli, Max S., Max L., Jakob, Maciek, Thomas, Uwe & Ole, thanks for the great time in Berlin and of course all the other guys in Ludwigsburg.
It was a pleasure working with you guys.

After animating effects for almost 12 hours a strange inner feeling to do another short animation test came over me on my way back home … why… I have no idea
… It’s nothing fancy, I only spend 45 min so don’t expect to much … In the end I played around with Maya’s Hardware Render Buffer and I was surprised how well it works. It’s almost as fast as playblasting but looks way much better because of antialiasing plus you can have motion blur… For anyone who is interested … Maya >> Window >> Rendering Editors >> Hardware Render Buffer. Under the Render tap you’ll find Attributes, just play with them until you like the result.

I found some time to put a selection of sketchbook pages I drew during my way to work and back … nothing fancy but at least I make some progress and that’s the most important thing

Last week it was time for another Sculpey experiment and that’s the result. I’m not too happy with it, but I think it’s Okay. Next week I try so scan some sketch book pages, because I started to draw every day on my way to work.

No I’m not dead
. Instead I’m working at Studio SOI on a great short called ‘The Gruffalo’ for the BBC. Last week the BBC officially anounced the project. Here you can find the article: Gruffalo to menace Christmas TV. So far I can’t show anything
, but I’ll post the trailer as soon as it is available. The only thing I can tell is that the animators having a lot of fun and the animation deadlines are tough BUT quality is king
